superficially: they can always say that it is due to some shortage of premium rubber or something bogus such as this.
deeper rooted reason: tires are a major OEM place to save money per vehicle, optimizing dollars per car sold.
not just a theory. truth from a couple of sales managers that i am on very good terms with. let's assume that this might be true: it's probably just a stupid reason to make us angry, but i'm guessing that it could be true. maybe bmw gets better pricing for using suboptimal performance tires (please, at least give us the sp9000s) such as the 8080s as opposed to pricing that they could get from michelin.
