By the same token, I hate having to return to the dealer because the warning lights come on or the clutch pedal squeaks as much now as I did in 1967. When I had to duck down a side street so my Mini didn't boil over in front of everyone in Harvard Square, I was downright EMBAR-ASSED! I get the same feeling when pedestrians look at the car funny because the clutch pedal squeak is so loud they can hear it through the open window!

When I had to climb into my '58 XK-150 coupe (total cost in 1966: 1 Yamaha YDT-1, one size 40 jacket, a Bell open-faced helmet, and $100) through the passenger door in front of my dates because the driver's door didn't open, I was MORTIFIED! I'm sure I'd feel the same way if my rear hatch release linkage broke and I had to climb over the seats to retrieve my guitar and amplifier in front of a club crowd. But there's a $39,900 gap between my Jag and an M coupe.

'nuf said. Kwillmorth has the right idea - I'm on the road again.
