My knob was loose one day when I got into the car after work. when the knob was removed the hunk of plastic stuck in the top of the shifter was cleanly broken off. I'm not a ham-fisted shifter, so I think the plastic melted or was otherwise weakened & then broke.

I drove (tho no auto-x) with it loose for a while (makes you even smoother as you have to barely cradle the knob) & then put on the UUC RK Evo Ti that I had on the M5. the shorter, heavier knob really makes a difference.

the dealer replaced it w/no issues of course. I'm itching to put the RK Evo back on but will likely leave it alone for a while.

I'm waiting for the UUC "Illumina-Knob" which has been in the works for a while apparently...

There was a Z06 'vette at a mostly wet auto-x event a few weeks back. guys driving it were from GM & they got to take it out on weekends, with the approval of their mgmt. lucky bastards. very fast car too, kicked my sorry ass.
