In Dallas, the family of a deceased woman sued BMW after she died test driving an M roadster. Allegedly, she was an experienced Z3 driver, but downshifted to second inadvertently, losing control of the car, and flipped.
Its interesting to hear that this has happened to others as well. BMW settled with the woman's family for an unknown amount.

What the hell is that??? Even my old 89 5.0 used to not allow the tranny to g o into a gear that could possible blow the engine/transmission. I couldn't believe it!! I was just screwing around and stomped on it in third gear until red-line and then "upshifted" to 4th and went into second! The car violently spun it's tires and slowed down and I punched the clutch in as fast as I could before something REALLY bad happened.

1. Why did this happen? Besides my sloppy shifting, isn't there something that prevents this?

2. Did I do any permanant damage to my car? It drives fine but I wonder I just took 10,000 miles off the life of my clutch...

3. Has this happened to anyone else?

Thanks.
