Rear hatch DIY fix needed? (archive)

I just had the rear hatch latch replaced yesterday. I brought them a printout of the fix (http://www.mcoupe.net/hatch.html) and asked them to do it. The mechanic that worked on it noted that the rod from the motor to the latch was too tight, and though it was putting pressure on the latch even when sitting at rest. He adjusted the rod to put a little less pressure on the latch and thought would do it.

Has anybody else heard this or tried it? I'm trying to decide whether it's worth it to open it up and do the fix myself, or just wait and see if this one works.
