It's not just that we don't have winter. We usually get 3+ months in the summer without seeing rain. It's not that we don't have winter, we don't have weather. It is a big news story when we see thunder and lightning. I remember when we had a storm last year it was the first time in a few years that the bay area had thunder and lightning.
As for food... Personally I think once you get over 100miles from NYC it all goes down hill.
Sure we have quakes, most of the time though you don't feel them. Since you don't know when they are going to hit, it's hard to worry about them.
