Spent 2.5 hours today painting/detailing the calipers. The kit is easy. Mix a hardener w/ your choice of paint: blue (mine pick), silver, red, yellow, black, gold. The paint kit cost $60.00 w/ shipping. It does not come w/ a brush. It also comes w/a can of brake cleaner.

It would have gone faster if I had the car completely up, but I only had two jack stands. The mixture must be mixed good. I first painted the driver's side. It appeared black/blue and streaky. I figured it needed time to set up for the second coat to finalize the color.

I noticed that the paint/hardener must have set up by the time I got to the other side. It went on much quicker and w/more color. This is when I decided to re-do the previous side. I figured it's a BMW not a HONDA (OOPS!) :) No decals on this car or buzzy exhaust or rear wings...

How did I choose on blue? The car is a 99' Arctic Silver. I figured it would be either red or blue. Yellow is too much of a statement. I believe in the theory 'less is more'. Probably wonder why I did not go w/ black using that theory... right? Blue worked great on my Flash Red SLC Corrado. BMW has the emblem that is blue/white. I figured it would be enough to draw some attention. It also would compliment the car, not detract from it's natural beauty. Was I nervous w/ blue? YES.

It turned out very nice! It's a shade off but not too far from the BMW blue emblem. The calipers got two coats of blue epoxy, which is heat resistent. The whole caliper got the entire treatment: top/side/bottom/front. It was hard to fit underneath/behind the the wheel but the mission was established under sheer principle. I want it to look nicer than it already does. Mission accomplished.

Red was not chosen due to the fact that my bro-in-law has the last air-cooled 993/S4 in silver w/ red calipers. It looked nice, but everything I have in Porsche attire is red/black. I wanted to go w/tradition and BMW is blue/white. Just a personal note.

By the way, took the car out for ice cream w/ the wife. It's so hard to act normal in this car due to the new car syndrome. People constantly stairing and then looking/sizing you w/ the car. It will honestly take time. Any advice from owners? Our red corrado got attention but not this much!

Also saw a Porsche Boxster pull in and park. When we were eating our ice cream. I said to my wife, nice car! Too bad it's not the Boxster S. If this that owner knows about cars, which I'm sure he did, he knows what the M Coupe can do to his car competitively. We stole his moment, I think. Nothing against his Boxster. I love Porsche! Always have and always will! I love BMW just as much.

Sorry for the essay.
Regards,
Scott Zonca
