That being the case, the newest BMW literature on the 2001 Z3 Coupes states that the 0-60 time for the manual is 5.9 sec and with the automatic 6.0 so you're not giving up much.

The gas mileage was rated exactly the same 21 mpg city - 28 mpg highway. (for some reason the auto roadster was rated less, but not the coupe)

Both tranny's are governed at a max speed of 128.

My only other thought is what a great opportunity to teach your wife how to drive a manual transmision car. If your experience is anything like my wife's, once she gets the hang of it she'll find it very fun and preferable to driving our "Boring" A4 wagon with an automatic.

IMHO not a battle worth dying for given the modest performance differences, but certainly worth one more shot at converting her.
