What happened to my tires? (archive)

I have BFG T/A R'1 as my autocross tires on my ///Mroadster. I run 255/40/17 in the rear and 235/40/17 up front. Today, I had 38 psi in front and 36 psi in the rear. The temperature was about 85 today.

After today's autocross I inspected the tires. There was no sign of rolling over onto the sidewall in front or in the rear. The two front tires however have "patches" of raised rubber that looked like the rubber had melted and re-stuck to the tire? Each patch was on the inside of the tire tread, like the rubber melted from the outside and moved to the outside. I think there are about two of these raised patches on each tire. Each patch is about two to three inches long and about one to two inches wide.

Can anyone tell me what I'm looking at?
