What is the best day to go? It officially starts next saturday but ends on the following friday. We tentatively were going to go on saturday morning, but wonder if it's really worth it since most of the main events happen during the week.

Thoughts? What are the best events? Can you go merely as a spectator? Or do you have to participate in at least one event?

You can be a spectator all you want. But just to gain admittance to lots of the events you've gotta be a registered participant.
