I'm an E36 owner with the hots for an M Coupe, but I expect that the lock actuators are the same.
Just had the same thing happen on my 98 328i and the dealer replaced the lock actuator under warranty. No charge, but it took them some time as they have to pull the door panel to do it. The dealer (John Roberts, Dallas) was great about it... no fuss, just took care of it, so no big deal to get it fixed.
I just noticed that if I lock my 99 M Coupe from the inside then pull the driver's door lever, it does not unlock. If I pull the lever on the shotgun side, the doors unlock. This is not right is it? Seems it used to unlock when I pulled the driver's door lever, but I am not sure. Also, I can't believe that I just noticed this, but my car does not have the grab handle above the driver's door. Instead it has two plastic plugs covering the mount points. Are they all like this? TIA.
