Gas Gauge, to fix it, or not to fix it. (archive)

After a complete fillup, my gas gauge is moving from one extreme to the other. This is the first time I have seen it, but only my 3rd time filling up the car, a '99 with me for 2 weeks.

I have searched the archives, but there are WAY too many posts on this. What is the verdict on repair. Being a '99, the carpet is not velcroed on like the '00 Coupe.
