I saw the posts too, but I think there are two different issues here.

1. A slow rising gas gauge. My understanding is that this is the one they "cut" the carpet for

2. A gauge that goes wacky for the first 50 miles after a fillup. My dealer says he will install a new sending unit to repair this. Is this what they cut the carpet for? If so, I can live with the gauge!

After a complete fillup, my gas gauge is moving from one extreme to the other. This is the first time I have seen it, but only my 3rd time filling up the car, a '99 with me for 2 weeks.

I have searched the archives, but there are WAY too many posts on this. What is the verdict on repair. Being a '99, the carpet is not velcroed on like the '00 Coupe.
