I bought a 2001 3.0i coupe to replace a 1996 1.9. Here are some reasons you might consider.
1. Power/weight ratio virtually the same as for M coupe 13.04 lb/hp for M coupe, 13.08 lb/hp for 3.0
2. Upgraded double VANOS engine on 3.0
3. DSC Dynamic Stability Control on 3.0
4. Lower final drive ratio on 3.0, 3.07 means lower RPM cruising on freeway, 3000 RPM= 61mph
5. Weight 187 lb less on 3.0
6. 3.0 better rated gas mileage city 21-highway 28 vs city 19-highway 26 on M coupe
7. Upgraded stereo on 2001 coupe. Mine sounds great.
8. Upgraded AC compressor. Better AC...
9. Better interior color selection. Dark Beige in Classic leather...No bumps
10. Extended Leather to match available
11. OBC available
12. Interior courtesy lights with time delay
13. Liked 15 spoke radial wheels better
14. Fog lights standard
15. 3.0 has a spare tire
16. License plate holder on lower half of rear bumper
17. Hatch has a handle to raise and lower it with
18. Windows can be raised by key from drivers side
19. Still in production, possible to special order to your specifications
20. Lower insurance rates. Mine was only $76 more per year than my 1996 1.9
21. Current year model... You're not buying a year old new car.
Here are a few reasons going for the 3.0 that I have read so far and am considering.
1) great for stock racing or autoX
2) lighter than the M so may be a bit quicker in the corners
3) has almost the same power as the current M
4) Taking out a loan for a new car has price benefits--- example- lower APR.
5) Won't have to worry about getting a "used" vehicle
6) Lower cost to insure than the M
Please give me any input for either car because I am having a hard time justifying upgrading from my Z3 roadster 1.9. Do you guys miss the top down experience?
thanks in advance!
