Back when I was living in Chicago, we had ICE Races on frozen lakes. It was a total blast! And you were going slow enough that there was nothing that could be damaged. But it did teach you a tremendous amount of car control and how to be REAL SMOOTH.

And if you learn your car well enough, driving in the snow (or ice, or even the dreaded BLACK ICE) will become a pleasure instead of a fear. Of course you still have to be wary of the OTHER drivers who don't know squat. But taking turns "rally" style can be fun unto itself! I used to be able to drive a Triumph Spitfire about 3 city blocks in reverse lock going sideways under complete control.
