Maybe you are right but what I'm trying to say is...

Before it was redesigned, the M3 was slightly cheaper than the M Coupe. Fine. After a complete redesign and significant improvements to the M3(not just the engine but everything else the E46 platform brings) you think the non-redesigned, not much improved M Coupe (except for the engine) will STILL cost more than the M3?

If the 2001 M3 was an E36 M3 with the new engine, then the 2001 M Coupe should cost a few bucks more. But this is not the case. The price increase for the M3 over 1999 is due to more than the new engine. The new platform M3 should cost more than the 2001 M Coupe which is mostly a new engine in an aging platform. The @2003 M Coupe (after redesign) should cost more than the M3.
