Failing rear latch (archive)

Has anyone else experienced a rear hatch coming open?

My latch just broke for the 2nd time in my 4 months of ownership. This time the latch mechanism is loose. In order to close the door you must slam it pretty hard. Sometimes while driving it opens to the second catch for the lock mechanism. I have to pull over and reclose.

This sounds like a safety problem.
