My transmission does feel better after the car warms up. My guess is your notchiness is normal. The transmission (is it a ZF or a Getrag, I can't remember?) is very precise when operating properly, kind of a "click click" feel to it. Not like an A4 manual or something that is smoother, but more rubbery.
Glad you survived the holiday season ding-less. I was very, very careful in parking, not sure what happened. One was a "back up" -- someone backed into me and scuffed the rear bumper. Might wax out. The other is a 1/8 ding in the clear coat right on the crown of the rear wheel well. Sticks out like a sore thumb to me. Oh well.
Hey -- if you do back to Leith, use Service Advisor Matt Moody. He appears to know these cars quite a bit better than any of the others.
I had Leith look at the clutch for slippage, not necessarily the notchiness problem. Does temperature play into the feel of the transmission? Does the transmission have to warm up to feel smooth?
I parked at the 4th floor parking deck at Crabtree ONCE. I found a place in the corner where two spots meet and the corner square was unusable, so I parked halfway into that square.
No dings yet. I'm going to Brazil on Saturday, and I'm in Virginia until Tomorrow. Friday is the only possibility, but I might be making my bags.
