Moisture in Oil? (archive)

So I'm checking my oil the other day, and there is a small amount of moisture residue on the inside of my filler cap. (grayish film) Not alot, but it definitely tells me that there is water or moisture in my oil chambers. I looked in the filter area and found none, so I don't think there is much moisture. I've never seen any evidence of water in my oil during changes.
Worst case scenario, I realize this could indicate a head gasket going out, but could it be something else?

My Mcoupe has almost 50,000 miles and I changed to Mobil 1 about five thousand ago. No significant coolant loss (One quart over last year), spark plugs are consistent. No significant oil consumption.

Queston 1: is it possible that moisture is building up in there due to the cold conditions, or due to my short trips during the winter? (I live in Dallas where we have had a cold winter, but high humidity)
Question 2: would the presence of this moisture have anything to do with the fresh change to synthetic oil? (is this perhaps from old natural oil "burning" off?)

Any knowledgeable insight would be appreciated, before I spend money on testing.

thanks in advance
