Anyway, I prefer a discreet look and when I saw the car, I knew it was for me. Here's what was done stereo wise...
All the stock speakers were replaced with Boston Acoustic separates. I'm not sure on the model, but the speakers say Boston Acoustic. Also, an 8" BA sub with a custom enclosure was added to the left side wall (opposite the //M Mobility kit). The stock amp and sub were removed. Where the stock sub (and I'm guessing amp) was now house the new amps (Xtant 302a and 403a). It's great because no one can even tell that they are there, plus if you wanted to steal them, it would be a real b*tch. Finally, the stock head unit was replaced with an Eclipse 5605 6 disc in-dash changer.
It's all a very clean looking setup. From the outside you can only see the head unit and the sub. This also leaves most of the trunk space usable since the sub box is maybe 0.3 ft^3.
Sound wise it's super clean (mids and highs with bass turned down completely) and with the sub, it KICKS. Subwoofer enclosure requirements are a lot less than they used to be and even if the box doesn't match up exactly to manufacturers spec., the coupe is such a small car it doesn't make that much of a difference IMO. It's just bass afterall...
If you are interested I have some pictures I can e-mail to you.
I was thinking of replacing the speakers/woofer and the CD player on my 99 Z3 coupe. Wonder if there are any good recommendations out there? Also, if anyone has done it themselves and how much work would it be. Any suggestions and info would be deeply appreciated.
