For a comparison look at these two cars

Z06 vs. Modena

Both have approximately the same weight(3200) and close to the same hp(350 vs. 385). However, the Z06 has significantly more torque(375 vs 275), close to 100lb-ft. Yet the Modena is faster in 0-60 and 1/4 mile. If torque by itself was important the Corvette would wipe the floor with the Ferrari. It doesn't. Though it is close to the same performance.

The Ferrari makes its power through good breathing at high RPM, just like the new M Coupe motor will.
