If I could have waited until, quite likely, September of this year for the '01 I doubt I would enjoy it any more than my 2000. The new motor is sweeter, but unless you have regular access to a track or miles of uncluttered highway I don't see when you will utilize it. I have had the '00 to near 140 MPH and at that speed you run out of road very quickly. Since I am not a racer, I don't know when, where or how I could use another 20 mph at the top end. I doubt I'll be back to 140 again now that I've done it once.
Now that the '01 is official and you can actually get a production number, the 2000s will drop very quickly so the price difference is not $3,000 it will likely be closer to $8,000 or $10,000 and that is if the dealers do not put a premium on top of the MSRP. In places like the SF Bay Area it could be as great as $15K (IMHO).
The keyless entry, fog lights, xenon, etc people have complained are missing from the '01 can be added to a '00 for well under $3K. And you can do one heck of a lot of modifications for $8K, each one putting the '01 further behind an '00 in the corners. And that is where the real fun is, isn't it?
