I completely agree that under normal/unagressive driving the diferences will be small. However, under hard acceleration there will be noticable differences.

The point that I was trying to make on the 0-60 times is that the new coupe will be faster, even if the gearing is the same. However, the diference will not be as large as one might suspect. But if you compare the time to top speed in second gear on the new engine versus the time it takes to get there in third on the older engine the difference will be much larger than the simple 0-60 number that is so popular.

I also agree that many of the potential benefits of the higher RPM limit will require gear ratio changes to truly take advantage(maximum acceleration to 100 mph, 50-70 passing, reduced RPM in 5th at cruising speeds). This could be done with a change to the individual gears or only to the rear differential. However, if the rear differential ratio was changed to optimize acceleration then the fifth gear ratio would have to be changed or the problem that people have mentioned with droaning at high speeds would be even worse.
