I always thought the coupe was lighter than the Roadster, hence the '99 title of Fastest BMW ever in the USA. (Until 2000 M5).

One would expect that the coupe is heavier, considering that they share identical unibodies except for the rear end/roof.

There is no extra strengthening in the floor of the roadster, remember, it was designed and built first, followed by the coupe.

The Coupe has additional weight in the C pillars, slightly higher rear quarters, roof and hatch, while the Roadster has the weight of the folding roof (considerable) to contend with.

I've felt the weight of each individual roof component of an Mcoupe (remember Kathy's wreck?) and I've also felt a convertible top from a roadster, and to be honest, the convertible top is heavier. the trunk lid on a roadster and the hatch on a coupe are comparable in weight, so the final result of the coupe being heavier wouldn't surprise me.
