I'm not sure what "ex ante" means, but it's a very wrong assumption to assume that just because BMW tells us that our engines put out 240hp that's what they put out.

it is a widely held & backed up with data from many sources (lots of people have seen higher results on dyno's with no mods & JimC and others who do tuning as a business state the same) that the M coupe engines put out around 250hp stock. I would say that 217hp at the wheels is a very strong result for an M coupe, but not out of the question by any means.

the best way to determine the correction factor for the M coupe is to check multiple sources to see what they have seen in terms of losses on the specific drivetrain - I believe that the 15% figure is within a few % of what I recall being mentioned here before.
