lighter wheels/tires do accelerate/decelerate quicker (that's the point!), and therefore the driver has to be more sensitive to what is going on than with heavier wheels to avoid spinning and/or locking the tires. the payoff for applying more skill is considerably better performance. if it were easy, winning races would just be a matter of buying some parts...

to improve launch, you might drop the rear tire pressure considerably - like to 25 psi or so (don't take this as gospel, it's just a guess). note that you should NOT drive the car with that low a pressure anywhere outside a drag strip, as you'll likely destroy the sidewalls.
