I hate North Carolina !! - venting time! (m) (archive)

OK, I go to finally get my car inspected. I did not expect any problems. But as I wait at Crown BMW, their state inspector fails the car!!!! I say "what?!?!?!" What could make my car fail. Guess what, the SuperTrapp exhaust that I installed! As of this year, North Carolina, and in all their wisdom, has mandated that all cars MUST have a "Tail pipe sticking out from 'behind' the exhaust" Since my exhust does not have a tail pipe, they can not continue on with the sniff test. Because the conduct the visual to make sure everything is there.

SO, I go back to work and tell my friend this, he has twin SuperTrapps sticking out of his 5.0 mustang, he Auto-x with me, he was suprised. He suggested me to see his garage that does his state inspection, he thought that Crown did not know what they were looking at. So, today I head off to his garage and they tell me the same thing! AURGH, I call my buddy and tell him. Now we only have two things we could do to make our cars pass.

First, we can do to the DMV and have them inspect the muffler and get an approval to use these mufflers.

Second, we could fab-up some "tail pipes" to make them pass the visual test.

I have no doubt that my car will pass the emissions.

At least I have 30-days to get to pass this stupid test again. Man, when I lived in South Carolina, they had no state car inspections. Too many people were cheating and getting away with it.

I will update you guys on the conclusion.
