Thinking about a z3 (archive)

I'm thinking of buying a z3 for a summer car. I'm trying to decide what I want to do. I want to try to get a cheap one, but I have a need for speed. What kind of mods are there available for the 1.9l engine. What do you guys think about the 99 2.5l? Or should I get a 97 with the 2.8? I'm just starting to look so any advice or help is appreciated. Thanks
