"Erratic fuel gauge readings on Z3/M Roadsters and Coupes may be caused by non-conducting deposit formation on the fuel-level sensor conductive surface. BMW now has an updated "Gold System" fuel level sensor, pn 16 14 6 756 323. Only if you are experiencing this problem, dealership will install the new part under warranty, if applicable.

i serviced my car a week ago and told the dealer that i have the gas gauge problem. they said they upgraded the software, but i still have the same problem. i notice the other day that if i don't lock up my gas cap, i don't have that problem. it dosn't have the faulty readings. maybe it's just my car. next time fill the tank up and don't lock the gas cap.
