I have been riding for about 6 years now, mainly sport-touring bikes. As you say, the power/weight ratio is serious on these things. The main thing is to keep yourself in check, know your limits and ride well within them. Mostly I ride to enjoy the day and the freedom of being on a bike. Every once in a while I get a little crazy, but even then I am keeping within my limits.

If you plan on starting to ride, I would suggest a rider's course, check out the motorcycle safety foundation at www.msf-usa.org
