Sounds like you had some fun :)
I had two Cobras before I bought my 99 Mcoupe. A 94 and a 96. The 94 Cobra was rated at about 240hp if I remember correctly and the 99 was 305hp. The hp increased to 320 in 1999 I believe but Ford had some problems with the 99s and the cars did not all make that much horsepower when produced but they fixed most of them under warranty. Do you know which year Cobra you were racing?
Based on my experience at the dragstrip with these three cars you could have blown away a 94 or 95 Cobra but the newer ones would give you a good race and it would come down to the driver. My best 1/4 mile time with the 94 was about 14.65 (don't have the slips readily available). My best time with the 96 was a 13.915. With the Mcoupe I was able to run a 13.812. 1/8 mile times are better comparisons because with both the 96 Cobra and the Mcoupe I was running just over 80mph at the 1/8 mile marker. The Cobra ran it in 9.030 and the Mcoupe in 8.900. That would equate to somewhere around a car length or a little less.
I have no experience racing the 99 or 01 Cobras except that when I took the Mcoupe to the dragstrip every Stang there seemed to want to run against me and the only one that beat me was a modified 99 with drag radials that ran about a 13.5. Can't remember what he had modified but after talking to him I wasn't surprised that he beat me. BTW, all of my cars have been stock.
I may take the Mcoupe back to the strip this year and see if the Hoosiers R tires I use for autocrossing and driving schools can't bring down the ET's a little.
There is only one thing that I miss from the Cobras and that is the deep note of the exhaust. Those cars sure sounded better than the Mcoupe. But in every other way I have found that the Mcoupe outperforms the Cobras.
Glad to hear you had some fun tonight.
