This reminds me of when I went up against a yellow Cobra the second week of owning my M Coupe. I had just broken it in, and tried racing him off the lights. He had a tall first gear (auto box?) which blew past me. He was about a car length ahead when we slowed down (about 70 mph). I realised, being the beginner I was with my coupe back then, that my traction control button was on, robbing me of a ton of power on takeoff. I think with that off, I'd have easily have equalled, or passed him.

I was coming home tonight, and pulled up at light next to a black Cobra, with modified exhaust. The exhaust sounded very deep, almost viper-like. Anyway, the light turns green, and we both gun it. I pull out ahead immediately about 1/2 a car length, and he when he shifted into 2nd (before I did), I pulled ahead a little more. In 2nd gear the front of his car was right about at my bumper (in the other lane of course), and it stayed like that until about 80-85. I then let off, and he pulled up next to me, and gave me the thumbs up.

I thought it was just a fluke that I beat him, because the SVT has about 320 hp. I think I just had a better launch, and I'm sure his car would have started to pull away at higher speeds. However, at the next light, we went again, and practically the same thing happened (timed a 5.05 on the g-tech to 60). At the next light, he waved, and turned off.
