that's BS. every time I take the car out to the track (be it 70F or 110F outside), my oil temp reads 265-270 constant after a few laps.

I don't understand how they can make such a statement, given that we don't even have standard oil coolers in our cars.

Is the car not meant to be driven on the track? :-)

from the '01 M coupe manual online at owners circle:

...
During normal operation the engine oil
temperature is between 175 F(80 C)
and 250 F(120 C). During performance-
oriented driving, do not exceed
the maximum temperature of 265 F
(130 C).
....
