A hatchback style car is a much better soundstage for a stereo than a standard coupe or sedan. The A4 for example has a hidden sub. Those low tones have to travel through alot of the car interior before they reach your ear. That is why we don't listen to a concernt behind a wall. *grin*

The speaker placement in the coupe is overall, not bad. The kick panels are always bad, but that it in 75% of cars out there. Only my supra had speakers up in the door that were facing the driver. The coupes tweeters have a great location. Also, in the A4 you have much much more surface area for reflection of sound, and you have to move much more air in the A4 than you do in the Coupe.

Like you say, is it about taste. But keep this in mind, most people (maybe not you) do now even know what a good reproduction of audio is. So ignorance is bliss.

My best bud has about 10,000 (speakers and amp) into a THX Reference level home theater. The sound is so different than anything you would hear in your local theater. It amazed me!

If you want truly perfect sound, go purchase a $1000 set of reference studio headphones. Then you will be amazed.

*grin*

my 2.2 cents (inflation included)
