the honeycomb pattern is not protective (this is POST air filter, remember) - it serves to straighten the airflow and allow accurate measurements.


Thanks for the info in the honeycomb shields. I spoke to a local company here (Australia), and they indicated that removing the inserts was common practice to improve airflow. They are not aware of any side affects?

I drove around for a day with the shields removed and was surprised by the improved engine response out of slow corners.

I have taken your advice and refitted the shields, but I did it reluctantly.
