Just came back from the BMW event at Moroso Mostorsports Park in W. Palm Beach. I don't have anything to compare it to, as it was my first event, but it was everything I hoped it would be. My instructors were actually Porsche guys from the local POC, each with 20-30 years of racing experience under their belts (John Holmes and Brian Canfield). They each did a couple of laps w/ me as passenger in my car (stock 99 M coupe) and scared the crap out of me! They actually handled the car beautifully, but I wasn't used to that kind of drifting. In fact, I'd just attended my first autox about 3 weeks ago and kept oversteering out of all my corners. I attributed it then to the stock dunlops, but now I know that it was 90% inexperience on my part. By then last session, I was flying, hitting my apexes and drifting the car where I wanted it to go (ah...the beauty of a late apex). In the process, I did on one occasion pinch turn 6, swung my tail out, over-corrected, and did a 360+ degree turn. Very glad there was no wall there. Learned a lot of respect yesterday for my car as well as the risk involved in the sport, but may be hopelessly hooked!

I thought I'd be interested primarily in the straightaway speed but found that all the fun was in the curves! Because of this (should have been obvious) realization, I'm thinking my money would be well spent on more schools and maybe suspension upgrades.

anyway, GREAT FUN!
