Ron,
The oil filter housing is the same number as the old Euro filter housing. It is now common to the old M euro motor, the new M3 and both the roadster and coupe,(all the same part #). The part number for the line should be the one I posted.....but, maybe not,(I am refering to the old Euro M3 line, which from the pic you provided and what is on the new M3, should be the same).
One issue we came across when we were cross checking part numbers vs the computer parts system at the dealer. The current data CD,(as of May), will only allow you to choose M coupes and roadsters with a production date of Dec or earlier,(may have been jan). So it was not possible to pull up a 2001 Roadster or coupe and get accurate data,(it would allow us to pull up a 2001 M coupe, but not with say an April/May production date and all the data matched the older coupes/roadsters).
The parts manager is calling BMW to find out how he can locate the correct numbers in the system,(it may mean waiting until the new cd) esp. since I am going to order an oil cooler and the associated ducting. (not only that, they are getting some in stock now, so they need accurate parts data). With the part number you provided from the actual cooler, I can now order that part, but we don't know the price.... I want to be 100% on the rest before I pony up the cash. It would make sense for it to be one number higher, ie an evolution. But rarely do things make sense!
I should find out early this week. I'll keep us updated... I would love to get one in and installed before the next event this weekend, but that looks unlikely...:(
One issue that still needs to be addressed for our converting the old M's to a current oil cooler setup is the routing of the VANOS line. On the new motor, it is not tapped from the oil filter housing as our is currently. That means two sensors need to be combined into one output hole. I am currently using the JTD block to combine the sensors, but it stretches the sensor lines. I think I can adapt a more common brass pipe fitting, but that remains to be seen.... Still searching.
