like about 12" legs (they make them for binoculars), then it might be better to put the two forward legs into the center storage shelf and then still use the bungee cords. this would be most secure and won't depend on seats.

the new mirror is actually not so bad for the driver, but for the camera it pretty much blocks the view. easy enough to remove/install...
