Don't forget one really important issue with adapting the setup you indicated. You will have to do one of two things to adapt the vanos line to the filter housing. You must either tap the hole using a 1/2 drill and 14x1.5 tap,(that size is from memory, check scott g's site for the exact tap size, I used it and it worked). Or you can buy the adapter he shows on his site. You must also buy the JTD distribution block so you can combine the oil temp and pressure switches. Don't let them start work to only then find out you have a problem. If you aren't comfortable with them tapping the housing, go with the adapter route. If you are interested, I can get the housing and tap it for you. The price would be similar to what you have quoted,(not more). The simple and clean route is the adapter,(with tapping you have to deal with the shavings).
