Was bored last night, so I did my usual anti-boredom Toronto/Niagara Falls/Toronto run at 3AM. 160 KPM on the northbound QEW, not a care in the world...until...a flash of fur jumps the 4ft center retaining wall! WTF! WHAM!!!!!

Raccoon parts flying everywhere! I start to pull over! Huh? Is that.....smoke? OMG! FIRE IN THE ENGINE ROOM! I stop! Break out the Fire bottle! (Yes, I have one. Class C even)

Oh man...

Air dam is history. Big horizontal crack. Lower grill is holed. The smoke was caused by the fender lining rubbing against the tire. No fire. Had to bring it home on a flatbed.

So I guess now I'm going to find out what it cost to fix a Bimmer. I'm guessing +$2500 Can. So much for my buying new AVS Sports. Well, at least it missed the hood and headlights. And thanks to some tinsnip/nutdriver work to get the broken underbody off, it still drives fine, although my first look under the car was pretty worrisome. (Is the head in there somewhere?)

On a semi-amusing note: If it had jumped a 1/2 second later, it might have hit the windshield. I can see the headlines. "Man decapitated by raccoon"! Interesting way to die, eh? Sorta Jim Clark like.

RIP, little guy.
