I just bought a 2000 M Coupe Saturday to replace my 99 M Roadster. Each car came with a little baggie of extra screws for this purpose. The screws have a funny ridged head that holds one of the black plastic tops (also supplied), just like the ones that are all ofer the dashboard. Looked nice on my White Roadster, and nearly invisible on my Estoril Blue Coupe.

On the 2000, they had a set of white caps, too. These would have looked nicer on my white Roadster, but se la vie.

If you don't have these screws, take one of the plate holder screws into your dealership and ask for a pair of the special ones, plus caps.

Just unscrew it! But that will leave you with some ugly plate holes. I saw at this weekends meeting in DFW that this guy picked up some rubber plugs at pepboys meant to do the same thing on trucks and plugged the holes. looked pretty good too. Anyone have any more info on this?
