I love them both for different reasons. I totally agree with Gary in his post above that for me anyway I'd much take my MCoupe on track. I go faster in the M3 by three seconds or so a lap at Laguna Seca. But it seems like I go faster in the MCoupe. Maybe it's the Go Kart effect. Plus since I've gotten better at driving it, I love the way it communicates to me to standby that it's going to do something fun now and then drive through it.

However, and this is a big HOWEVER. All bets will most likely be off once I learn how to drive the M3 on the track.

I prefer driving the M3 at autoX events because it is faster. Both in terms of handling capabilities and in the improved view you get in the M3 setting about 8 inches higher and much better visibility out of the M3 in general.

As far day to day use? The M3 feels like a 5 series when cruising Pt or Pt. However it doesn't get near the attention that the MCoupe gets with the general public, even though that model is a few years old. Now to figure out how to keep them both.

I am considering buying the '01 M coupe. However, I want to ask you guys out there who have driven both the M3 and M coupe : style and practicality aside, which car is more fun to drive ? is the M3 worth the extra money ? ( I have not driven the M3 so your inputs are greatly appreciated)
