Saturday was a big day. With the help of my other roadster friends (Miata guys), I installed Bilstein sport monotube shocks and struts, H&R sport springs, new rear shock tower mounts, Ferodo brake pads, Goodridge stainless steel brake lines, ATE SuperBlue brake fluid and new brake wear sensors.
The car looks and feels great, although to be safe, I'm going to have it aligned. The install was not all that difficult. Being able to borrow a shop quality spring compessor really helped. The install took about 5 hours from the time it was put on the jackstands until the first test drive. This included bleeding the brakes, reinstalling the strut brace, and refastening the trim behind the seats.
Other than the improvement in handling and looks, there was one other noticable improvement: the car had a squeak that was diagnosed as coming from my (aftermarket) sway bar bushings needing lubrication. Well that squeak had to be from the OEM rear shocks or shock mounts because it's now gone.
Many thanks to those who posted your tips and tricks last week! The best was the one about using a socket and an allen wrench on the top of the new rear shock to tighten it.
Many thanks to Mario and DaveR for preparing instructions for all of us to benefit from! And to Rachel for providing a convenient place to reference them (yes DaveR, I did go to your site as well, it's awesome).
If any have any questions feel free to contact me while the details are still fresh.
