Must be different in California then. In NY, NJ and CT, I have accepted pleas to lower violations for almost every moving violation I have ever gotten. In my experience, they just want your money, the violation is not particularly important. I usually seek a lesser moving violation or an equipment violation depending on how bad the initial ticket was.
