I spent the last 3 months going through this same decision. new 3.0 vs. used M

My take is this.
The 3.0 liter is definitly a worthy vehicle and I have absolutely nothing but good things to say about it, but, for an incremental cost, if not less money, you can get a very low mileage '00 M. The M has quite a bit more to offer over the 3.0: bigger brakes, wider wheels/tires, dual exhaust, sportier front facia, sportier seats, more guages on the center console, more horsepower and torque, and M badges all over the place.

The M will hold it's resale value better, and may be easier to sell than the 3.0.

If you get the 3.0, you'll still want the M, so you might as well save yourself a step and buy the M.
