Update so far: I have responses from most of the guys who have dealt with their dealer and BMWNA on the rims. You first start with the dealer svc mgr. Then it usually goes up to a regional BMW svc rep and we all meet. The BMW rep makes the decision and in most cases, some haggling occurs. The fixes offered go from replacing certain wheels to offers of refinishing - which usually does not work - tough to match.
It appears to be the earlier production M Coupes/Roadsters which had the problem, and they had it right off the bat. We are #60031. Of course to me, and just my opinion, this looks like a production quality issue which they eventually straightened out - but the early owners with the problem have to go to them to get taken care of. And there is no guarantee. They will start off claiming damage caused by abrasive chemicals. But we use BMW car shampoo and no wheel cleaners so I should be ok.
I meet with my dealer svc manager Monday and then the BMW rep probably the week after when he comes to town. I'll post updates.
BMWNA cust svc has seen these threads and contacted me. So, at least you know they monitor the boards as do some dealer employee enthusiasts. I guess they lay low "lurking" because they would open up a can of worms if they post.

Thanks, John Davidson
