Inspection I due.. what is Inspection I? (archive)

I have a '00 M Coupe, and my yellow light along with the Inspection I light just came on about 5 minutes ago. I'm assuming this inspection is covered under BMW's free maintence program, as the car only has 17800 miles.. But wondering what exactly they do?
