Using Hwy 28 through Fontana to come and go was a blast as well because of all the long sweeping turns it has at a higher speed limit. Hwy 28 currently has some construction areas about 10 miles west of Hwy 19 due to NC extending it from Hwy 19 into the mountains as a 4 lane highway. There were several places where there was a lot of rocks and dirt on the road dropped by the trucks crossing it back and forth as they dug out and moved the mountains. This caused some heavy dust issues driving through it.
I tell you all of this purely as information in case anyone is coming from the Dragon on Hwy 28 to work their way through the mountains down to the Gvl/S'Burg area. Hwy 28/64 into Highlands is in good shape and has that great waterfall that you can drive behind for a unigue picture opportunity. Hwy 64, Hwy 107, Hwy 130, Hwy 178, Hwy 276, and Hwy 11 are also in great shape and very fun to drive. Of course Hwy 11 is not curvy, but it offers some great views as it runs along the base of the SC/NC mountains ultimately east toward Hwy 276 or Hwy 25 to get into Gvl/S'Burg.
Since I've just been on all of these roads, I thought I'd update you all as you get ready for your travels. Hope you all have fun as you endeavor to get here for Homecoming.
