Whereas, a real street car & its driver is a harmonious team not a 1 trick pony (start dependent-only)
That's why the M Coupe is a hoot to drive because it allows me to use my driving abilities not just the sheer power of a Porsche (a fine car) to overcome the shortcoming of my personal drving skill set. Brains over brawn.
I've always looked w/ disdain @ the crazies who need to race @ stop lights.
Just their sheer testosterone inhibit their driving abilites & causes them to be caught in the oncoming traffic! Heh heh.
It's the driver stupid!
I believe I have come up with a very good way of evening the playing field among top cars in terms of their acceleration.
We all know 0-60 tests are worthless because there are too many variables that blur the true accelerating power of a car. Secondly, tests like 0-100 and quarter-mile are better in giving a clearer picture about which car is faster, but there is still the element of the launch, etc.
Another problem with acceleration tests is that they vary from magazine to magazine, and its never perfectly clear which is the faster car.
To put the cars on an evening playing ground, I recorded the 0-60 and 0-100 times from the same source (R&T) in the same test. This effectively puts all the cars on an even playing ground as there is no launch involved with bringing a car from 60-100 during acceleration.
The great thing is, no matter how bad a launch is, the 60-100 time should be equivalent. Think about it, if you screw up a launch, where it takes you 5 seconds to get to 30 mph, you then get traction, and accelerate pretty evenly up to 100. The 0-100 time minus the 0-60 time gives a good picture of HIGHWAY ACCELERATION, the most important type of acceleration a car buyer should consider (as they are not taking their car to the dragstrip).
