I agree with Thomas G. that there is no comparison. I saw the car at the LA Auto show and was not impressed with its styling at all. IMHO it was gaudy. Clearly the performance with over 500bhp will be spectacular. Henrik Fisker, the Z8 designer thinks it will appeal to the "Gold Chain Set" and I agree.
The appeal of the Z8 is the combination of style and performance. The decision not to make a fully automatic top, with a glass window, was not a lack of technical know how or saving dollars, it was a design decision. I personally don't like having to manually remover the cover, and store the damn thing if I have to put the top up (al la my M Roadster), but BMW does not design cars, particularly this one, based upon focus group input. They have a firm belief in that they know more about building cars than the public does and this is in “spades” with this car. The intent is to provoke an emotional response to the car. With me it is overwhelmingly positive.
Either way, it is impossible to remain neutral on the car.
